To identify a scam listing on Craigslist, look for these red flags: prices that are too good to be true, vague or generic item descriptions, poor grammar and spelling in the listing, a sense of urgency to complete the transaction, and requests for personal information or unconventional payment methods.

In short, an address alone generally isn't enough to put you at risk of identity theft or financial fraud. However, scammers might use your address to send phishing mail, intercept packages and mail, or even show up at your home.

Scammers can find enough information to target you with phishing emails or direct mail. They may even ransack your social media profiles to discover more details about your career or hobbies, that they can use to lend more credence to their scams.

Craigslist offers an anonymous email to advertisers on the site, so they do not have to reveal their real email address. All replies sent to this anonymous email is forwarded to their actual email. This extra steps prevents others from having access to a poster's real address.
