What has happened to the Montreal Forum? ›

The Forum was built by the Canadian Arena Company in 159 days. Today most of the Forum building is now a multiplex cinema known as Cineplex Cinemas Forum operated by Cineplex Entertainment. Additionally, a large portion of the building's upper floors are used as campus expansion for Dawson College.

All the greats were there, literally passing the torch to the newest generation of Montreal Canadiens. On March 11, 1996, the storied hockey team played its last game at the Forum, a venue that had been home ice for 71 years.

Bell Centre (French: Centre Bell) formerly known as Molson Centre, is a multi-purpose arena located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Opened on March 16, 1996, it is the home arena of the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League (NHL), replacing the Montreal Forum.

Opened in 1996, the Bell Center hosts the Montreal Canadians in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The Molson family owns an arena formerly known as the Molson Centre via Groupe CH, the club's ownership group.

Players and fans are often called the Habs, which is believed to be an abbreviation of les habitants, the informal name given in the 17th century to the original settlers of "New France." So, as history shows us, the H does not stand for Habitants, as that was only coined years after the logo was created. Instead, the outer C represents Club, the H signifies Hockey, and the inner C represents Canadien – in full, “Club de Hockey Canadien”.

The Canadiens jersey draws inspiration from the team's success and its city's style in the late 1970s. The primary color is a powder blue popularized in Montreal by Major League Baseball's Expos, who wore it on their road uniforms from their founding in 1969 through 1991.

One police officer was killed, about 30 people were injured, over 100 people were arrested. The riots caused about $2 million in damage. Ultimately the army was called in to restore order. Quebec's National Assembly also passed a special law ordering the police to return to their jobs.

After the fire, the Wanderers again appealed for reinforcements, but none were forthcoming. The team defaulted its next two games, against the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto, and then disbanded. The last active Wanderers player was George Geran, who played his last NHL game in 1926.
