Many books on leadership concentrate on good or 'best' practices, often taken from interviews with successful corporations and sociological research. Both nonbelievers, Christians (e.g. John Maxwell) and Mormons (e.g. Stephen Covey) produce leadership books. Biblical characters such as Jesus Christ (servant leadership), David (grassroots leadership) and Solomon (wisdom and integrity breaches go hand in hand), Moses (delegation) are often used. Ralph Hawkins and Richard Leslie Parrott use the rise and fall of the first king of the Jews, Saul as source of worst practices we all can learn from. Leadership Lessons: Avoiding the Pitfalls of King Saul is a practical leadership guide. While the biblical story of Saul wouldn't be enough to fill a book on leadership, definitely one of the weak points of this book, many supplementary sources from Philip Yancey to Manfred Kets de Vries are quoted as well to draw your attention to character traits God is looking for. Whether you're a leader in a church or other organization, it's a helpful overview of contemporary ideas on leadership. Both authors leave servant leadership untouched, but move beyond institutional, transactional, and transformational leadership to spiritual leadership. Values-based, breed in a living relationship with God,
It contains ten sound biblical principles of leadership, as lessons drawn from the pitfalls of king Saul, lots of examples of how to apply these lessons to your life, action points, check lists to rank your knowledge and practice and questions after each chapter to sparkle discussions.
