Releasing "Lords of Shang-Yang" would be a HUGE mistake - Total War: Warhammer (2024)

​This is what would have to change for me to be onboard with rumored next DLC:

Ogre Kingdoms vs. Cathay

OKs:
1. LL Golgfa*g

2. LH Bragg
3. The rest of the pack is a bunch of the missing OK characters and units.

4. FLL Mung. A Cathay-friendly OKs LL that has diplomacy bonuses with Cathay, and maybe a handful of Cathay units in his roster. Rather than being a Cathay LL.

Cathay:

1. LL Monkey King

2. LH Tigerman

3. Units and characters revolve around a “Beastmen of the East” theme.

4. FLL Li Dao

This wouldn’t work, it narratively sticks together 2 races that probably will not like each other. I’d prefer them to flesh out the the Monkey and Tigermen rather than just sticking them together.

The worst part of this unverified revelation is the fragment saying that Li Dao is destined to become FLC LL. Downright heretical, really.

The Fire Dragon ought to lead Cathay in the DLC. His should be proper quality animations and mechanics. I want to immerse myself in the fiery prayers of the Phoenix Temple.

I've had enough of just Dragons.

If his dragon form is something interesting then sure, otherwise give me MK or an interesting character instead.

The chief problem with the original DLC format is that the 3-Race pack format was financially lucrative in SoC's original form. (Where content/production costs were minorly more than a TWW2 LP, being sold for significantly more.) When the playerbase rebelled at the price-to-content ratio, they had to significantly increase the content, which significantly increases production costs.

And part of that is the pace. Recall that it originally seemed like they were setting up for 3 DLCs a year - April, August, December - spaced four months apart. The additional content added to SoC and ToD slowed that pace to ~2 DLCs a year, which would greatly effect financial expectations.

So there's probably no going back. Releases can't be slow to release and expensive to make.

As for your picks,Ka'Bandha is mainly an End Times (plus 30k/40k) character who overlaps somewhat with Skarbrand. I don't hate him, but I think there are better WHFB options.

Abhorash, if one wanted to put him in the game, would be best as a LH. And he wouldn't fit Vampire Coast at all (assuming that isn't a typo).

I think Mung might be the problem one here. I like Basheeva's side of the roster and it would go a good way to making Ind feel more like Ind when its opened up since we can use Lord, Hero and Tigermen Units to populate the subfactions there.

Arbaal or Skulltaker should come before Ka'Bandha imo. We need 1 Greater Daemon, 1 Lesser Daemon and 1 Mortal per mono.

Why do you assume they don't like each other? There's nothing in the lore about animosity between them.

Where in the lore does it say they work together? They live in close proximity, was there a Tigerman detachment who helped to take over Cathay?

The Tigermen have strict martial culture, the MK is disorganised and tricky, totally different creatures and there's not evidence to suggest a Tigerman would be subordinate to a Monkey.

Add to that, I'd prefer they world build and create 2 distinct cultures rather than just throwing them together.

(Legitimately asking. I know lore on them is scarce, and I have likely missed something. But WFRP refers to the tigermen as being seen as "noble but fickle". Of course, that also describes tigermen as having "...had the heads of great cats... mounted on naked human bodies", whereas the TWW3 Ind Caravan event describes them as wearing unnotably regular Ind garb, faces hidden by voluminous silk scarves and gloved hands, such that they pass for human.)

They are described as ‘noble’ but, fickle. Obviously to villages they feel they are of high moral standing which is connected to their warrior status. They have reasonable complex, personal morality as the villages don’t fully understand it.

Tjeres no evidence to suggest they friends or work together, yet you think it’s a good idea to simply push them together in the same DLC and Monkey Lord and a Tiger hero? No, they are a separate group and are worth exploring in more detail beyond - Eastern Beastmen.

You don’t understand the difference between a single entity monster and a lord type? That’s unfortunate.

We've got nothing on them officially. There's a Village of the Tigermen, and a reference to a Tiger Court, but that's about it.
