Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever had. I would give them 0 stars if I could! Do not send any overpayments on loan payoffs. You will never get your money back! Awful!

Update on my quest to get reimbursed by BMO Bank for a tax charge that was not applicable in the state of Oregon, which I paid. After yet another frustrating call to BMO Bank and speaking with the resolution team, I was told that through their investigation process they determined that they, the bank, actually paid the fee (tax), and not me, so there would be no refund to me. Well... I went back into my emails and found the link sent to me by the bank during the loan process for me to go online and pay the tax fee. I found the certificate and the payment history, and guess what? It was paid by me, not the bank! This process has wasted hours of my time. I will have to contact them again and waste more of my personal time providing proof to them that I actually paid the fee. Whoever the person who did the investigation should not have a job there if they are this incompetent. Of course, I am the one who has to provide the proof that I paid, not them supply the proof that the bank paid the fee. Go figure. Stay away from this institution.

My wife and I bought an RV in 2015 and financed it through Bank Of The West, and they were excellent to deal with. About a year ago, in 2022, they sold the loan to BMO Harris. We always made our loan payments online with Bank Of The West with no issues, but when we started to deal with BMO Harris, they said they didn't offer online payments and that we would have to mail or call in the payment. So we mailed the first couple, and then when we sent a payment against the principal, they lost it. Consequently, we began paying via phone. Each time, and I stress every time, we were subjected to a barrage of questions. Three times we were told we didn't have a loan with them, even after providing our account number! When we called to make the payment for this month, my wife underwent a barrage of questions and was once again told we didn't have an account. Eventually, the representative from the Philippines found the account but said she had to speak to me because my wife's name supposedly wasn't on the account, which was incorrect since the loan was in both our names and Social Security numbers, and we applied jointly. At that point, my wife put me on the phone, and I requested to speak with a supervisor. I was told one wasn't available but would call me back. After a week and a half, I am still waiting for that call! I called today and paid off the balance of the $27,000 loan. I will never deal with BMO Harris again and I advise everyone to run as far away from this bank as possible! They are a HORRIBLE company to deal with!

The worst bank when it comes to banking. I have tried to make an extra payment to the principal, and the bank will not allow it. They may say there's no penalty for early payoff, but they make it virtually impossible to add a payment to the principal. I have even mailed one in to the 'principal only' department in Illinois, and they still did not apply it to the principal.

BMO or BMO Harris has been the worst banking experience I have ever had! I would rate it less than zero stars if possible. The call center is not helpful at all; I have been waiting nine days, seven business days, for a loan release letter to be emailed to me. I would expect that the call center is not in North America based on the lack of ability to do anything other than read the manual before them. I would never do business with them again. If they were the last bank in the world, I would pay cash or do without. It is that bad!

I had a car loan with BMO. In October 2023, my car was in an accident and totaled. My insurance company, Progressive, sent payment to BMO to pay off the remainder of the vehicle loan. BMO closed my account but continued to deduct auto-payments for three months following the payoff. I was able to reverse the December payment with my bank. For three months, I have contacted BMO multiple times to get a refund check. They claim they mailed a check, but it was sent to the wrong address. They now want me to pay for a notary to complete an indemnity form and pay to mail this form to them before they will issue my refund. I have faithfully paid my loan on time for the past over three years. The loan was paid off, and BMO continued to draft money even after my account with them was closed. I do not think it is right that I should spend the time and money for their mistake. I just want a refund check sent to me.

BMO is the most incompetent bank I have ever dealt with in 25 years. Customer service is substandard; the person answering the phone barely speaks English, and they don't know what to do most of the time. I have called BMO multiple times to correct an issue on my car loan account. After staying on the phone for 1-2 hours and being transferred 4-5 times from one department to another, the problem was never resolved. The way this bank allocates the payments to interest and principal seems arbitrary and does not appear to follow mathematical rules. The approach they use to allocate payments is questionable. They never respond to emails. After being 7 days late with the payment, they sent my loan to collections. The reason for my lateness was that they had not processed my check, even after 3 weeks. Late processing of checks occurred every single month. Stay away from this incompetent bank known as BMO Bank NA.

BMO offers the worst service. You have to spend 20-30 minutes on the phone with them to make a simple payment every month. Their express pay doesn't work. Their app/online account services don't work, so I can't set up auto-pay. They have tried to walk me through setting up an account multiple times to no avail. I input the correct information, but it isn't recognized. They have been persistently calling my phone even though I spent 20 minutes on the phone making the payment a couple of weeks ago. I had a confirmation number, too. Customer service is terrible; they don't care at all. They just continue with their script and ask the same repetitive questions every time. They are such a huge inconvenience.
