The greatest editing app of all time

Pros

It's extremely easy to create videos, capture the screen, and edit the results of them. I've been using Camtasia since version 6, and the improvements have truly addressed my daily challenges. I've tried using other editing apps, but I couldn't find anything like this one. It's really comprehensive, focusing on features that truly matter. There are no unnecessary features. If you want to create informative, instructional, short marketing, or budget-friendly videos, then this is definitely your best option.

Cons

There are some memory limitations in projects that use a lot of effects or large video files. Therefore, when I have to edit a large video, I usually split the editing into parts and produce them separately. So, if you want to make videos longer than 10 minutes frequently, on a computer with less than 16GB of memory, Camtasia may not be the best option for you.

Easiest Video Editor - some features need work.

I have switched to other video editors. They're either overly complicated (too feature-rich) or too expensive. Some are too simplistic. Camtasia continues to be the easiest to learn, use, and deploy videos. Regardless of whatever tools I try, I keep coming back to Camtasia.

Pros

Camtasia is intuitive. It's pretty easy to understand how to get samples into the editor, how to cut scenes, how to stack videos and audio. There are a lot of audio and video effects that are obvious as to how to use them and what they do. The barriers to entry are very low. And it's a decent price for the capabilities.

Cons

The new "Background Removal" is not great (moving around causes flickering). A long-time complaint is a lack of Video Titling. No easy way to time-reverse a snippet. Chromakey (remove color) doesn't work well.

Camtasia stinks and will be replacing it

Terrible, slow, expensive for what it is, doesn't get good updates.

Pros

Being able to separate screen, mouse, and voiceover.

Cons

Extremely poor editing software. No way to play at 2x speed, program runs insanely slow, worse than After Effects, and each project gets worse the more edits you make. No way to do rolling edits, or select future clips easily. Sets-up projects at the incorrect aspect ratio by default, and then when you notice that further in your project, it's a pain in the butt to fix on each individual edit.

Does what it says!

Pros

I like that it can show which keys your using and you can give different effects to your mouse. Great for making tutorials!

Cons

It's quite expensive now that there are so many alternatives. I love loom for example, however Camtasia has a lot more options.

Alternatives Considered

iMovie and Loom

Reasons for Choosing Camtasia

This is easier, and has a lot more options (annotations, mouse highlight effects)

New Changes from 2022 to 2023 Frustrating

I really loved it at first and promoted it to others to start using it. Now, it drives me crazy that it takes me longer to create than it ever did before because of these design and UX changes.

Pros

It was pretty easy to learn and could do the basics with no problem.

Cons

The additions of Proxy and other editing features made it cumbersome to get the normal editing completed that 2022 had.
